This week in our learning:

It has been another busy week in Grade 2!

We are preparing to film our performances for the Spring Concert. Ms. Hatch's class is doing an Acadian Chair Dance and Ms. Fuchs' class will be reciting a poem about Spring.

We have started new units in Gym. Ms. Hatch's class is doing fitness and Ms. Fuchs' class is doing Bean Bag Golf. We are hoping to do many of our gym classes outside now that weather is changing.

In Language Arts, we are practicing our reading skills in different ways. Sometimes we work in small groups to practice skills and strategies and sometimes we do large group activities where we learn new reading skills and strategies to help us become better readers. We are starting to look at Fairy Tales and Folk tales and will use these as mentor texts for us to begin writing our own Fairy Tales and Folk tales.  Ask your student about what they are writing about in school!

In Math, we continue to work on describing and comparing 2-D shapes. We are learning about sides and vertices and are noticing that shapes are everywhere in our world! Ask your student about shapes that can be found in your home and outside.

In Social Studies, we have started a new textbook called Looking at People. We've already learned about what it is like in the three communities we are studying. In this book, we will read about the people in these communities and their cultures. Our focus questions are Who are the Inuit people of Iqaluit? Who are the Acadians of Meteghan? and Who are the Ukrainians of Saskatoon?

In Science, we are talking about water pollution and things we can do to help the Earth. We are coming up with lots of ideas about how to conserve water.

Thank you for all of your support. Hope you all had a great weekend!
