March 19, 2021

This week in our learning:

March 20 was the first day of Spring!

Our school wide Spring Concert will be on March 26, 2021. This is the last day of school and school will resume on April 6. 2021.

We will be starting new units in gym once we return from Spring Break. Ms. Hatch's class will be doing Bean Bag Golf and and Ms. Fuchs' class will be doing Foam Stick Games. We are hoping to do many of our gym classes outside now that weather is changing.

In Language Arts, we are practicing our reading skills in different ways. Sometimes we work in small groups to practice skills and strategies and sometimes we do large group activities where we learn new reading skills and strategies to help us become better readers. We are looking at different Fairy Tales and Folk tales and are using these as mentor texts to begin writing our own Fairy Tales and Folk tales.  Ask your student about what they are writing about in school!

In Math, we continue to work on describing and comparing 2-D shapes as well as 3D Shapes. We are learning about sides, vertices, faces and are noticing that shapes are everywhere in our world! Ask your student about shapes that can be found in your home and outside.

In Social Studies, we are looking at the textbook called Looking at People. Our focus questions are Who are the Inuit people of Iqaluit? Who are the Acadians of Meteghan? and Who are the Ukrainians of Saskatoon? It will be fun to see Ms. Hatch's class perform an Acadian Chair Dance during the Spring concert.

In Science, we have started a new unit of study called 'Boat's and Buoyancy'. We are experimenting with different items to see whether they sink or float and learning words like float, sink, density, buoyancy and buoyant force. The students had lots of questions when they were shown images of boats like the Titanic or the Bluenose as an introduction the unit.

Thank you for all of your support.
