This week in our learning:

In Language Arts, we are continuing to listen to lots of different stories to help us write stories on our own that have characters, a setting, a problem and a beginning, middle and end. We retell our stories to a friend before we write our own stories. When we write stories independently, we are learning how to use adjectives to describe nouns and different ways to end our stories. Ask your student about what they are writing about in school!

In Math, we continue to work on developing our understanding of addition and subtraction of larger numbers. We use manipulatives, like counters, number lines and 100-charts to show addition and subtraction problems. We are also working on describing and comparing 2-D shapes. We are learning about sides and vertices and are noticing that shapes are everywhere in our world! Ask your student about shapes that can be found in your home.

In Social Studies, we are finishing up learning about what daily life is like for children in the communities of Iqaluit, Meteghan, and Saskatoon. We have also learned about school and what children do for fun. Each community is unique, but some things are the same in communities all across Canada. We used the information we learned to create a brochure telling others what they would see and things to do if they travelled to that community. We gave reasons why the community is a good place to visit, included some history of the community, and fun things to do.

In Science, we are learning that water can be changed to other states. We know that on cooling, liquid water freezes into ice; and that on heating it melts back into liquid water. We have talked about The Water Cycle learning words like condensation, precipitation and evaporation.

Thank you for all of your support. Hope you all had a great weekend!
